Why Should I Update to the New Global Navigation?
Updating to the new Global Navigation replaces three separate menu systems with a single, always-accessible side panel — so your users spend less time hunting for features and more time using them. Related tools are grouped together, common tasks take fewer clicks, and several long-standing feature names have been updated to language your users already understand.
The update is free, it's controlled per Theme, and it's as easy as "flipping a switch."
Below, we'll break down the key differences, cover the terminology updates that come with it, and walk you through how to turn it on.
The Key Differences
| Old | New | |
|---|---|---|
| Navigation systems | Three separate systems — Top Nav, Slider Menu, and the Super User Dashboard (plus Web Services) | One unified side panel |
| How items are organized | Split by role and access, so items don't always live where users expect | Grouped by what users are trying to do — Communication, Users, Content, Integration, Admin, Reports |
| Related actions | Scattered across menus, requiring users to know where to look | Surfaced together in the same group |
| Clicks to common tasks | Many tasks buried several levels deep | Fewer steps from sign-in to action |
| Discoverability | Features users don't already know about stay hidden | Capabilities surface naturally as users browse the panel |
| Search | Limited | Search built directly into the navigation panel, including popular searches |
| Mobile | Inconsistent across menus | Designed for every screen size, with a dedicated mobile panel |
| Terminology | Internal branding and invented vocabulary in menu labels | Industry-standard, plain-language names |
| Rollout control | — | Per-Theme toggle, so you choose which Locations update and when |
What's New
One Centralized Panel
Everything lives in a single, always-accessible side panel. New admins no longer have to learn which of three menus holds the tool they need, which is where most first-time confusion came from.
Reorganized, Not Removed
Nothing has been taken away. Items have been regrouped so related actions sit next to each other. If you know what you're trying to accomplish, you'll find the tool that does it — without needing to know which role or access level it was historically filed under.
User-Centered Language
Menu labels now use words your users already know. Internal branding inside a navigation menu is a tax on users, so we've removed it — without changing what any feature does.
Terminology Updates
Five features have been renamed as part of the redesign. The features themselves are unchanged — only the labels are different.
| Current Name | New Name | Why It Changed |
|---|---|---|
| Watchdogs | Insight Alerts | Tells the user what the feature actually does. |
| LightPad | Messenger | Matches the universal mental model — every user knows this word. |
| Interactive Landing Pages | Landing Pages | Industry-standard term. The qualifier confused more than it clarified. |
| Private Label Management | Themes | The right word for the in-app context where users edit visual identity. |
| Webhooks / Catchhooks | Outbound / Inbound Webhooks | Industry-standard pairing. Makes direction explicit and removes invented vocabulary. |
Note: You may still see "Private Label" in sales and marketing materials. That's intentional — the term is precise and valuable in those contexts, where it describes a differentiator. Inside the application, "Theme" better matches what users are actually doing.
Before You Update
- The new Global Navigation is Theme specific, meaning you can enable it for one Location or all of them. We recommend enabling it on a single Theme first so your team can get familiar with the new layout before a wider rollout.
- Let your Users know the update is coming. The tools are the same, but the paths to them have changed, and a short heads-up prevents support tickets.
- If you maintain internal training, job aids, or documentation that reference the old menu paths or the old feature names, plan to refresh those alongside the update.
How Do I Update?
- Go to Private Label Management (Themes)
- Select the Theme you want to update — typically the System Theme
- Go to the Theme Settings tab
- Under Template Settings, select Version 7
- Select Save
- That's it! Exit the Theme and sign in to review the new navigation.
Note: Because this is set per Theme, repeat these steps for any additional Location Themes you want to update. Any Theme left on the previous version continues to display the existing navigation.
