Case Study on offering a “VT Product” on Amazon.com
Learning Dynamics is a company that has a program called “4 Weeks to Read” which is an early childhood reading program that has been sold as a book series where a teacher or parent gets a box of books that consists of lessons, reading books, worksheets and an audio CD. It has been and has still successfully sold on Amazon.
After recently turning it into an interactive video version with a Private Labeled VT System with LightSpeed VT, it can now be sold online as a “Virtual Version.” They have leveraged Amazon by adding the “Virtual Addition” to their product on Amazon, and it is outlined below how this was done.
This article will cover:
- How to add a companion offer to an existing book/product on Amazon (to upsell the buyer to the Virtual Version)
- Selling the “Password” on Amazon, as a “Virtual Product” (without a book purchase)
Adding the “Companion” to a tangible book purchase

For every Amazon customer that purchases the books, there is an insert card in the box that lets them know that: “As an Amazon purchaser of the Learning Dynamics 4 Weeks to Read System you qualify for FREE ACCESS to the online interactive video companion program.”
This printed card, describes the virtual version, and their “FREE Access” and has a call to action of both a URL, and a QR Code that they can scan and will also take them to the URL. Here is what that insert card looks like.
And here is the URL that links to the Free Registration:

Once they register for free, they get access to a few select Courses inside the VT System, and there are several calls to actions that promote the upsell to unlock the full “Virtual Version” for a payment.
Go ahead and go through that Free Registration process so you can see what that looks like.
As these users go through the Free Registration, we also create a Contact/Opportunity in the CRM which campaigns will start that will promote the upgrade to the full version.
Selling the “Password” on Amazon, as a “Virtual Product”
(without a book purchase)
On the product listing on Amazon, see and click the option for “Virtual Edition” and you will see where an Amazon user can buy just the Virtual Edition right off of Amazon.
When the Virtual Edition is purchased, the buyer will get a “Purchase Redemption Card” in the mail, which has a URL and QR code where they go to use their redemption code, and on the card is a unique code, that can only be used once, and will give them full access to the Virtual Edition that they purchased.
Here is the “Purchase Redemption Card” with an example of the unique code:

Final Thoughts
This is a great way to leverage a book, or flip chart, or really any product that you have on Amazon by adding a “VT System” as a companion. Once the user is in your VT System, you can obviously present many upsells; not just the one you have listed on Amazon. Also, it doesn’t have to be an “insert card” as the mention of the companion, you could print that mention and QR code on the back of the book, or really on anything that easily gets attention from someone that buys it.
We do however recommend the [ “Purchase Redemption Card” with an example of the unique code ] and here is how to do that:
The is a built in feature in LSVT where you can create a “Registration Form” that will ask for a Redemption Code/Promo Code, and LSVT will generate as many unique codes as you want. These codes can only be used once, and their usage is tracked, so if a user calls in and says “my code doesn’t work” we can then look it up and see when and who redeemed it. LSVT will export a list of codes and we can direct you to a printer that can do the “variable printing” where they can print a unique code on each card, based on a provided file.
Then when a user makes the purchase on Amazon, they do get an envelope in the mail with the redemption card in it. This makes it compliant with Amazon’s policies.
