Free Trial OR Upsell Tool?

The goal of the free location is to get users into the system and show them the full experience, you're not just offering some courses to watch, but an actual training system that has value. Before you create the free trial location, you’ll want to spend some time thinking about which course would be the best to convert into an “upsell course”. Notice that I said “upsell course” instead of “free course”, this is because we should really be thinking of it as an "upsell course" because it's not just free, it's a tool that we'll use to convert the users in the free location. With the upsell course, you'll want to structure it in a way that collects data in the beginning and then makes an offer to buy at the end. So the first chapter should have some interactivity where you'll ask some questions to get certain pieces of data from your users to use in your marketing efforts.

For example, you can ask the user if they're a sales rep or a sales manager and with this info you can market to them with the proper offers because a sales rep probably isn't going to buy a whole location, but they'll buy an individual account in your system if you’re selling B2C and a Sales Manager can buy a whole location for their team. The rest of the course will be the actual content that the user signed up for and after they go through it, the last chapter should have two buttons, one button will make an offer to buy and the other button will act as a lead generator.
For example, in the last chapter you can say something like "I hope you enjoyed the course, if you're interested in seriously improving yourself and your sales, click here and we can give you a call to explain our approach in detail (this is the lead gen) or click here to purchase now and get access to our full system and content (this is the offer/upsell)". So let's say you have a course with 8 chapters that you want to use in the free location. Once we are done duplicating the course and making it into an "Upsell Course" it will have 10 chapters, one in the beginning to collect data and one in the end for the lead gen and offer (upsell).

Once you have the content ready, you’ll want to create a “Trial” content role if you haven’t already.

Now that you have your Trial location in place, I know what you’re thinking, “how will users get in?” We'll, I'm glad you asked, because that’s what we’re going to go over now. You can either create “Trial” users manually, or you can create a registration form, which allows potential customers to create their own accounts.
