Connecting Your Authorize.net Account to LightSpeedVT

authorize-net

Overview

Connecting Authorize.net to your VT System lets you sell courses and subscriptions and grant access automatically once a buyer pays. Setup takes about 15 minutes: you copy four credentials from Authorize.net, add them to your VT System, and run a test purchase.
Authorize.net is a strong fit if you sell one-time offers or simple flat-rate monthly subscriptions, want lower merchant fees, or can't use Stripe because of your industry or country. If you need tiered pricing, trial roles, or advanced subscription terms, Stripe or Maxio may suit you better (compare platforms).

Before you begin

Have these ready so setup goes in one pass:

  • An active Authorize.net account. Authorize.net is a payment gateway only, so you also need a merchant account (payment processor) linked to it. Authorize.net's fees run about $25/month plus 10¢ per transaction and a 10¢ daily batch fee.
  • Account Owner or Administrator access in Authorize.net, so you can view and generate API credentials.
  • Admin access to your VT System, with permission to open the Super User Dashboard.
  • Your product list: each course or package you'll sell, its price, and whether it's one-time or recurring.
Note:

Authorize.net can't create a subscription at $0. If you plan a free first period, set it up as a trial period or use a small charge instead.

Step 1: Get your API credentials from Authorize.net

Your VT System needs four values: your API Login ID, Transaction Key, Public Client Key and Signature Key. Together they let your VT System send payments to your gateway. They can't be used to sign in to Authorize.net.

  1. Sign in to the Authorize.net Merchant Interface at account.authorize.net.
  2. Go to Account > Account and API Settings > API Credentials and Keys
  3. Copy your API Login ID (8 to 25 characters).
  4. Select Generate New Transaction Key, then click Submit.
  5. Request and enter the verification PIN Authorize.net sends you.
  6. Copy the Transaction Key (16 characters) right away. Authorize.net shows it only once.
Keep in mind:

Generating a new key retires your old one within 24 hours, or immediately if you check Disable Old Transaction Key Immediately. If another system already uses your current key, update it there too.

Treat both values like a password. Share them only through a secure channel.

  1. Under Signature Key select Generate New Signature Key. Decide whether to check Disable Old Transaction/Signature Key Immediately. If you leave it unchecked, your old key expires automatically in 24 hours. Click Submit.
  2. Request your verification PIN, then enter it.
  3. Copy the Signature Key right away and store it somewhere secure. It's a long, 128-character value.
  4. Under Public Client Key, select Copy Public Client Key or Generate New Public Client Key. Decide whether to check Disable Old Public Key(s). If you leave it unchecked, your old key expires automatically in 24 hours. Click Submit.
  5. Request your verification PIN, then enter it.
  6. Copy the Public Client Key that appears.

Step 2: Connect Authorize.net in your VT System

  1. Sign in to your VT System as an Admin.
  2. Open the Super User Dashboard and select 110 Authorize.net Integration.
  3. Under General Settings tab fill out the required fields - your System/Account Name, select your VT System. Toggle the ANet Live Mode to Yes. Paste your API Login ID, Transaction Key, Public Client Key and Signature Key into their fields. Check for extra spaces before or after each value, a common cause of failed connections.

Step 3: Adding Webhook Endpoint and Authorize.net Webhook Events

  1. After you save your Authorize.net details, your VT System generates a webhook endpoint URL. Adding it to Authorize.net lets your VT System update buyer access automatically when a subscription changes or a payment is refunded or voided. An additional field will appear below the ANet Signature Key field.

  2. Copy the webhook endpoint URL and add it to your Authorize.net account.

  3. Click Account in the main toolbar.

  4. Next click Account and API Settings. Under Webhook Notifications click on Webhooks.

FAQ

Does LightSpeed VT process my payments? No. LightSpeed VT connects to Authorize.net, which sends funds to your merchant account. Fees and payouts are between you, Authorize.net, and your merchant provider.

Can I offer trials, tiered pricing, or Apple Pay? Authorize.net supports simple trial periods and setup fees, but not trial roles, tiered pricing, PayPal, Google Pay, or Apple Pay. For those, consider Stripe or Maxio.

Can I switch to Stripe later? Yes. Reach out to Client Care and we'll help you plan the move.
