What AI model powers AI Tutor?
AI Tutor is built on the OpenAI Agents SDK and currently runs on GPT‑4.1 (as of September 15, 2026). An upgrade to GPT‑5.6 Terra is planned for an upcoming release. Model upgrades are handled on our side and require no action or reconfiguration from your team.
Is this RAG?
Yes. AI Tutor uses retrieval augmented generation (RAG). We do not train or fine tune a custom language model on your content.
Here is what actually happens:
- Your courseware and any materials you add are broken into chunks and converted into embeddings.
- Those embeddings are stored in a vector database scoped to your system.
- When a Learner asks a question, AI Tutor runs a semantic search against your indexed content and retrieves the most relevant passages.
- Those passages are passed to the model as context, and the model composes an answer grounded in them.
Because nothing is baked into model weights, updates to your content are reflected in answers as soon as they are re-indexed. There is no retraining cycle to wait on.
Is our data used to train AI models?
No. Your courseware, uploaded materials, and Learner chat data are used solely to generate answers inside your own system. We do not use your data to train or fine tune any model, and content sent to the model provider through the API is not used to train their models.
Is our data isolated?
Yes. Each system has its own AI Tutor instance with its own indexed content, branding, and configuration. Retrieval is scoped to your system's vector data only, so there is no cross client retrieval or exposure. Within your system, results are further filtered by each user's role and content permissions, so a Learner can only receive answers drawn from training they are enrolled in.
