The US EU Data Privacy Framework (DPF) is a set of standards that allows US companies to transfer personal data from the European Union (EU) while adhering to the stricter data privacy regulations of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), essentially acting as a bridge to ensure data protection when transferring data across the Atlantic, whereas GDPR is a comprehensive data privacy law directly enforced within the EU itself, governing how personal data of EU residents can be collected, stored, and processed by any organization handling such data.
The EU-U.S. DPF is not a GDPR compliance mechanism, but rather is a mechanism that enables participating organizations to meet the EU requirements for transferring personal data to third countries, which are discussed in Chapter V of the GDPR.
